My Best Friend

I get lots of friends, but actually get alone so well with a few ones.

What is a genuine friend? From my point of view, it was still harmonious even we got nothing to say to each other, we would not start talking another topic forcibly to break the silence, either. And we would like to help mutually without concerning returns. We would feel safe while getting alone, and there is no need to maintain the relationship elaborately. Even if we have not seen each other for more than a year, we would hardly feel strange because of the strong friendship.

Just like an old Hong Kong teleplay Golden Faith said, a true friend would never be jealous when I succeeded, and would never be disparaging when I dispirited.

I would like to talk about such a true friend of mine, Elinda. We met firstly when we learned about playing the piano in the same place at the age of about seven or eight. She was two years younger than me and became my best playmate ever since. Our personality is not similar. She is competitive, brave, and willing to try out new things, she is more like a challenger. However, I am introverted, quiet and coy. Our different characteristic did not affect our friendship at all. Once we watched a TV show together, the heroine got married and several bridesmaids surrounded her happily. At that moment, we told each other that we must be each other’s bridesmaids when we got married.

When we were in high school, she went to Sydney with her family, and I stayed in China. Later, I entered MUST, at the same time, she was in Sydney preparing for the university entrance exam. The geographical separation would not affect our friendship at all and the 3 hours jet lag is not a problem either. We never bothered each other when we were busy, but whenever there was a holiday, we would chat for hours and share the recent trivia around us. We talked about everything, and we never worry about the other new friends around us. She is in my heart all the time, and I am in hers as well.

Last summer holiday, I specifically applied for the university’s overseas study tour in Sydney. In fact, this was a great chance to be with Elinda because we had not seen each other for a long while. When I told her this news, she was very surprised and delighted, she could not wait to start planning for our itinerary on leisure time. We were really enjoyable during that time, because she happened to have a long vacation. Our common hobbies were visiting exhibitions and having coffee. We scheduled for visiting all the museums in Sydney and tasted a lot of special food. She also took me to one of her favorite places in Sydney, new town. I still remembered the first time I stepped into a vintage buyer’s shop and an ancient bookstore in that new town, which were amazing and charming. Elinda brought me to this fantastic space.

By the way, one time we strolled in a park where a street artist was playing the electronic keyboard, we walked past him and heard the melody, we could not help humming together and said City of stars in unison. La La Land is our favorite movie, and that moment was really wonderful. And I thought the best friendship was just like that moment.

Another thing that impressed me most was that once I had a quarrel with my boyfriend, I was about to collapse, and just was on the verge of breaking up. I cried for a long time, but still could not help sending a message to Elinda to tell that I was really in pain and did not know what to do. Elinda replied to me not long after, she didn’t ask me what happened, but helped me to calm down. After that, she told me that there was nothing in the world that could knock me down, my only enemy was just the deep down myself. I stopped sobbing and started to talk to her about my trouble. She patiently listened to me and told me that there were actually too many things that are more important than a bad relationship in my life. Not everything is worth my youth and energy. When she finished enlightening me, it was already two or three in the morning in Sydney. After days, I heard that she had to get up early the next day after that day to do part-time work. When I was most vulnerable, it was Elinda, who always be on my side, just like my family, she supports and protects you all the time.

The best friendships are made up by every ordinary thing. We are independent, but we have unlimited trust in our relationship, we would respect and tolerate each other all the way. We are different, but best friends.
