Everyday Heroes

Every era got its own heroes. When fighting against serious COVID-19 in China, heroes resolutely went forward without fear of death. They are well-deserved being called heroes, that we should always recall what they did. The heroes I would like to talk about, that not only were medical staff, but also work in other industries.

The first hero I would like to share is a 79-year-old architect called Huang Xiqiu.

On January 23, 2020, Chinese government issued an order to build a special hospital in Wuhan refer to the “Xiao Tang Shan Hospital” which was a special hospital during the SARS period in Beijing. The goal is to build the hospital with 1000 beds in 10 days to focus on the treatment of patients with pneumonia caused by COVID-19. Huang Xiqiu, as the chief architect of China Zhongyuan International Engineering Corporation, wrote a petition letter when the China was suffered by COVID-19, he made a series of architectural designs for Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital, and made significant contributions to the construction. In 10 days, referring to Huang Xiqiu’s design, Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital was quickly built. The construction speed of Huoshenshan Hospital and the professionalism of the design have amazed many people in China! Huang Xiqiu, the 80-year-old chief architect, created this “China Speed” miracle. Over the past seventeen years, from SARS to COVID-19, Huang Xiqiu has witnessed the tremendous changes of the times, but he still had not changed his original mind while facing the crisis.

The second hero I would like to talk about is a nurse called Hupei who was born in 1998.

Can you imagine a pair of 22-year-old hands, were cracked badly and full of scars because of long-term exposure to disinfectant and talcum powder? The 22-year-old’s hands should be fair and smooth. Hupei is a nurse worked in the infection department. She once said, “I am very proud that I am a nurse during this time. If we shrink, who will eliminate this virus? I am still a member of Communist Party of China and always stand on the first line. “During the anti- COVID-19 period, Hupei was very responsible. No matter how her body was consumed, she stayed on the post and took good care of the patient responsibly. Her medical spirit touched many people.

The third hero I would like to share about is a policeman called Wuyong.

He was a very brave man who had been in the police for 31 years in Wuhan.

During the anti- COVID-19 period, food purchases were difficult. The government distributed food by the police, and many communities did not have elevators. Wuyong climbed up and down in the building, tried all his best to distribute food. He still kept it up when his back and legs was in pain. He treats the residents with a sincere care and tolerance.

Since the outbreak, he worked cyclically from Monday to Sunday and from day to night, nearly without rests.

On the afternoon of March 22nd, Wu Yong, who had fought for 60 days and nights in a row, after sent life-saving supplies for the destitute residents and went back to the police station, was exhausted on the bed, and then he did not wake up again …People would remember him all the time and were moved by everything he did.

As a famous politician,Kissinger said,China is always well protected by their bravest people. Under the protection of many selfless heroes, Chinese anti- COVID-19 situation has greatly improved, and all parts of the country are slowly returning to operation.

We would wait for the outbreak to dissipate with love and hope.
